Humpy's Super GM game! International Master S.Kidambi this week gives the famous game played by Koneru Humpy against Miroshnichenko,E (2671) with a critical analysis.

(1) Koneru,H (2572) - Miroshnichenko,E (2671) [E62]

17th Chess Festival Abu Dhabi UAE (9), 20.08.2007

[Kidambi]Date: 19-09-2007

In the recently concluded Abu Dhabi tournament Humpy made a 4/4 at the finish, beating the top seed Ukranian GM Miroshnichenko on the way.By doing so she also managed to cross the magical 2600 mark.Let us take a look at one of her key games. 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nf3 g6 3.c4 Bg7 4.g3 0–0 5.Bg2 c6 6.Nc3 d6 [6...d5 would lead to more solid positions. But it was understandable that the top seed was in a fighting mood.] 7.0–0 Qa5 8.h3 Qa6 One of the rarer lines of the KID fianchetto system. 9.Nd2 Nbd7 [9...Be6!? 10.d5 (10.b3 d5 leads to gruenfeld type positions.) 10...Bc8; 9...e5 10.d5 cxd5 11.cxd5 Nbd7 12.a4 Ne8÷ was seen in the Humpy-Deepan match played earlier this year.] 10.b3 Rb8 11.Bb2 b5 12.e4 e5?! The combination of e5 and b5 with the queen on a6 does not seem harmonious. [12...bxc4 13.Nxc4 Nb6 14.Ne3² would be slighlty better for white expecially after she has managed to get e4 in before playing Ne3.] 13.cxb5 cxb5 14.a4! (

The retribution is swift and accurate. 14...bxa4 [14...b4 15.Nb5 Bb7 16.Re1 with the idea Nc4] 15.Nc4! From hereon whites play is as accurate las a computer program!Humpy relentlessly drives home her advantage. [15.Rxa4 Qb6 Now white is not able to play Nc4] 15...Qb7 16.Nxd6 Qxb3 17.Nxa4 exd4?! [The best black can aim for from the current position seems to be 17...Ba6 18.Re1 Ne8 19.dxe5 Nxe5 20.Qxb3 Rxb3 21.Bxe5 Bxe5 22.Nc5 Bxa1 23.Rxa1 Nxd6 24.Nxb3 Bc4 25.Nd2 Be6 26.Rxa7² /± And now its 50–50 whether white will win or the game can be drawn.] 18.Bxd4 Qe6 19.Bxa7 White has won a pawn, but more than that whites pieces are much better placed than their counterparts which leads to more material loss in the near future. 19...Ra8 20.Nc3 Ne8 21.Nxe8 Rxe8 22.e5!+-

White wins the exchange and with it the game. 22...Qxe5 23.Bxa8 Qxc3 24.Qa4! Qe5 25.Rac1 Nf6 26.Bc6 Rf8 27.Bc5 Bxh3 28.Bxf8 Bxf8 29.Rfe1 Qg5 30.Bg2 Be6 31.Rb1 Bc5 32.Rxe6 White can afford to give back one exchange 32...fxe6 33.Rb7 Qc1+ 34.Kh2 Bf8 35.Bh3 Qd2 36.Bxe6+ Kh8 37.Kg2 Qd6 38.Qc4 h5 39.Qc8 1–0
